Different Classifications of SchnauzersDid you know that Schnauzers are the only breed that comes in 3 official sizes? The miniature, standard and giant are all AKC recognized breeds.

But, they are in different classifications:
The mini is part of the terrier group
The giant & standard are in the working group

The mini was bred as a ratter for farms and ships, while the standard and giant did some guarding, herding and a bit of hunting.

The only other breed that has 3 common sizes is the poodle. But, as far as the AKC is concerned, the denominations standard, miniature, and toy are used to describe size only. All the poodles are one breed, governed by the same standard.
